School Committee discusses policies, votes on action items

Date: 4/29/2020

SOUTHWICK – The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District School Committee discussed two policies and approved eight action items at its April 21 meeting.

The first order of business for the at the meeting was a brief refresher course from committee chair Jeffrey Houle about meeting policies in regards to action items and business.

The next order of business was the reading of two policies. The first policy was a first reading of a policy for the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED). After there was a question about how staff is trained to use the AED, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Jenny Sullivan said, “The AED is designed so that anybody can come and use it without specific training, but we do have voluntary training for staff members in AED, CPR, and first aid that we offer free of charge. And most of our staff members have participated in that training.”

The second policy was a second reading of the physical restraint policy, which the committee went through with little discussion.

After the policy readings the committee jumped into its action items and approved all eight, again with little discussion.

The items included approving a lead teacher job description, approving the School Choice seats for next year, and to rescind previous votes for the budget assessment ratios and to incur debt for the FY21 budget before approving new ones for each area.
