Southwick, Granville see hikes in school board budget plan

Date: 4/7/2022

SOUTHWICK — The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School Committee approved a 3.32 percent increase to the district budget for fiscal 2023, as enrollment continues to slide.

The committee approved the $26,678,162 budget March 29, up from $25,822,130 in fiscal 2022. The required local contributions from Southwick and Granville will have a relatively significant increase, while the contribution from Tolland decreases. Southwick’s contribution rose by $427,166 to $9,591,859. Granville’s rose by $80,153 to a fiscal 2023 total of $1,540,615. Tolland, the smallest community in the district by far, decreased by $6,805, bringing its contribution down to $384,476.

In the previous budget, covering fiscal 2022, the local contributions from the three communities actually declined, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The voters of the three towns will now need to vote to approve the district budget at their upcoming annual Town Meetings. Tolland and Granville meet May 9; Southwick’s meeting is May 17.
