Volunteer groups help clean up North Pond shores

Date: 6/1/2021

SOUTHWICK – More than a dozen residents and members of the local Boy Scouts participated in a cleanup of the shores of North Pond May 22.

Conservation Commission Coordinator Dennis Clark said that enough trash and debris was found near North Pond to fill two-thirds of a 30-yard dumpster. He said the dumpster was donated by Dan Hess for the cleanup, and Kurt Saunders donated his pontoon boat for the day.

Large pieces of wood, debris, and trash were pulled from the lake throughout the day by the volunteers.

“Scott Persue-Synder did a great job in spearheading this effort. He got his friends and neighbors, members of the Citizens Restoring Congamond, Lake Management Committee, Community Preservation Commission, Rotary, Conservation, and Boy Scouts all to lend a helping hand,” said Clark.

Clark said that Hess would like to donate $2,000 to the Conservation Committee each year to help pay for any projects that protect and clean up Southwick’s lakes.
