WESTFIELD/SOUTHWICK – With 2019 in the rearview mirror, local officials in Southwick and Westfield are looking ahead and shared their personal and professional resolutions, along with what they are looking forward to most in the New Year.

Elected officials in Southwick said they are looking forward to the town’s 250th anniversary and all of the events they have planned throughout the year, culminating with a parade and gala to celebrate the anniversary in October.

Southwick Select Board Chair Russ Fox said he was looking forward to celebrating the town’s 250th anniversary.

“We have a lot of special events planned throughout the year for the anniversary, so my resolution for 2020 is to make it the most memorable year in Southwick’s history,” he said.

Southwick’s Chief Administrative Officer Karl Stinehart said that he is looking forward to celebrating Southwick’s birthday and its past and what comes next for the town. He said, “The fireworks and craft fairs are great examples of the community coming together to recognize its history with our youth who represent its future.”

Stinehart added that he wanted to wish everyone well for the New Year. “On a personal note, I wish everyone good health and prosperity for the New Year,” he stated.

Local law enforcement officials said they are looking forward to improving the services they provide to the area and protecting residents and the community.

In Southwick, both Fire Chief Russ Anderson and Police Chief Kevin Bishop said they look forward to continuing to provide better services for the citizens of Southwick. Anderson said that while he didn’t have a specific resolution for the department, he was looking forward to building on specific aspects of it such as its Advanced Life Support service and overall staffing.

Bishop added that he had a personal goal for 2020 as well. He said, “Like the other thousands of people out there I want to try and eat healthier and get in better shape.”

Westfield Fire Chief Patrick Egloff said that he has a multifaceted goal for the Westfield Fire Department in 2020. “My New Year’s resolution for the Westfield Fire Department is to always be there for the citizens of the City of Westfield when they need us the most. Secondly, I also make a resolution to make our work environment as safe as possible,” he said. “I will always do my best, as will my chief officers, to make sure everyone goes home to their loved ones at the end of their shift.”
