WARE – To make aging and caring for an aging individual easier, a Senior Resource Fair will be offered to people in Ware and its surrounding communities.
On March 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Senior Resource Fair will take place at Cedarbrook Village at Ware, 73 South St. Caregivers, aging individuals, seniors and more are encouraged to attend the inaugural event.
Event Coordinator Danielle Souza told Reminder Publishing that the fair will feature local and regional resources for the aging population. Representatives from local agencies will be available to speak with in person and handouts will be provided.
The fair is a collaboration between the town of Ware Age Friendly Committee and Cedarbrook Village at Ware.
Souza said the idea for the event came to fruition after caring for her father. As a first-time caregiver, she was unaware of resources available to her at the time. After talking with others her age, she realized there was a need for these resources.
For those attending the fair, Souza said there will be “everything you can think of” with vendors from one spectrum to the other. This includes estate appraisers, health services and senior living options, to name a few. Local resources will also be available such as the Quaboag Connector, Ware Senior Center and representatives from the Ware Housing and Community Development Department will be answering questions.
Although the event is in Ware, Souza said it is open to anyone. Pre-registration is not required, and admission is free. Parking is also free and available on site.
Currently, Souza said she is working to obtain bus access for people in senior housing looking to attend the event.
She noted that light refreshments will be provided.
“We are very excited to have Cedarbrook Village hosting our first Ware age friendly event,” said Souza. “Cedarbrook has been very busy behind the scenes working on different age friendly committees and we are grateful for the use of their space.”
She continued, “For those who don’t realize, there are many committees meeting regularly to improve the town’s resources for our aging population which is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. Everything from parks and recreation to housing to transportation are being looked at and hopefully improved to meet the expected demand in Ware.”
