WARE – Independent consultants Leanne Roberts, Kim McBride and Jamie Mundell are teaming up to host a donation drive on July 24 from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. at 329 Belchertown Rd. in Ware to benefit Second Chance Animal Services. They are collecting food, blankets, bowls or any pet supplies needed for the animals at Second Chance, as well as monetary donations.
Roberts is an independent Scentsy consultant, McBride is an independent consultant for Pink Zebra and Mundell is an independent consultant for Lemongrass Spa.
“This will be our first team event,” said Roberts. “It will be an exciting event. We’re going to give away prizes. We’ll also be donating 25 percent of our profits of any sales right back to Second Chance.”
She continued, “My daughter will be painting flowerpots and planting cat grass and her profits will go to Second Chance also, so we’re hoping to give them a decent amount of donations.”
Second Chance Animal Services is a nonprofit animal welfare organization helping over 40,000 pets each year through adoption services, full-service veterinary care, spay/neuter services, community and educational outreach programs, training and a pet food pantry.
Roberts saw on Facebook that Second Chance was out of supplies and looking for donations of towels and blankets. She reached out to her online group stating she would be collecting donations for them.
“I have used Second Chance before for help with animals in the past, so I thought it would be a great thing,” Roberts replied. “When I first bought my dog, he needed a major surgery and Second Chance was able to help me find the right location. Plus, being it’s spring/summertime, a lot of people clean out and get rid of things, so why not take them and donate them to the animal shelter?”
She went on to say, “Animals are a part of our family. It doesn’t matter what situation you’re in, you love those animals like they are your family. Having a place like Second Chance is very important, so that clients are able to get the services they need. We just want to make sure that everyone is happy, and the animals are taken care of.”
Roberts and McBride have known each other for a while and bought products from each other. When Roberts reached out on her Facebook page, McBride asked if they could do a team event and Roberts said absolutely. McBride brought in Mundell, and they decided to set up a table in McBride’s yard, which Roberts said is an easy drop off location.
They are going to have boxes set up for Second Chance along with some of their supplies from their companies. The shelter will receive the donated items and cash donations.
McBride responded, “This fundraiser is important to me because animal shelters across the country are currently overwhelmed with the number of animals coming in between surrenders, strays and accidental litters. They need all the help they can get. Veterinary care for one animal can be thousands of dollars.”
Second Chance is extremely important to McBride’s family. Since 2016, they have adopted four dogs through their shelter and are currently fostering a kitten. McBride told Reminder Publishing the services that Second Chance provide for these animals is amazing. Seeing everything they do and how the dogs have truly changed her life, McBride said her dream is to one day open her own shelter.
“I would love for people to take away our gratitude for their help and donations, an appreciation and understanding for the difference any donation can help shelter pets, and how much Second Chance does for every animal that comes through their doors. They are an incredible asset to our community.”
