WARE – For the fifth year, the Ware Junior Senior High School (WJSHS) National Honor Society is hosting its annual diaper drive to assist the Ware Jubilee Diaper Mission.
Now, through Feb. 17, diapers, baby wipes and monetary donations can be dropped off at any school office. Science teacher Jesse Trzpit is the advisor of the National Honor Society. As he works in the WJSHS, he encourages people to drop off items there, if possible, though he will pick up donations from the other schools as well.
Trzpit explained that about five years ago, the Ware Jubilee reached out in hopes of doing a partnership with the school.
According to the Ware Jubilee website, its mission provides monthly children’s diaper assistance. “It’s a nice mission to try and support [families in need],” said Trzpit.
He noted that the diaper drive ends on Feb. 17 so that all items can be collected before students go on February vacation. During the break, Trzpit will take a few students to deliver the items to the Ware Jubilee.
At press time, Trzpit said donations have been “slowly trickling in.” In past years, he noted that donations seem to pick up right at the end.
“We are happy with whatever we can get,” Trzpit said. However, he shared that usually, his goal is to try and collect more items than the previous year. “On average, [we have] collected about 1,000 diaper donations and over 2,000 wipes,” he added.
With the monetary donations, Trzpit uses the money to purchase diapers in bulk at Costco.
As a Ware resident himself, he noted that he is happy to see this mission in town and is hoping to expand the drive in the future.
“I am proud of the work the kids do,” said Trzpit. “They work hard for me.”
The Ware Jubilee also operates a food cupboard. Both are run out of Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 20 Park St.
