No contested races in upcoming Ware election

Date: 3/8/2023

WARE — Only a few names will be seen on the Ware Annual Town Election ballot on April 10 due to a low candidate turnout.

Town Clerk Nancy Talbot shared the offices that will appear on the election ballot along with the individuals who have pulled nomination papers. She noted that the last date for anyone to withdraw their nomination papers or for someone to object the nomination papers was March 8, after Reminder Publishing’s deadline.

For the Select Board, there are two, three-year terms available. Incumbent John J. Morrin is running again along with Talbot. Talbot is looking to fill current Select Board member Thomas Barnes’ position as he is not seeking reelection.

Incumbent School Committee member Aaron R. Sawabi is running for another three-year term.

Incumbent Board of Assessors member Theodore P. Balicki is running for a three-year term.

For the Board of Health, Michael Francis Juda is running for a three-year term.
Incumbent Park Commissioner William R. Imbier is running for another three-year term.

Incumbent Cemetery Commissioner Roy Paul Erickson is also running for a three-year term.

Christopher J. Dimarzio, an incumbent, is running for a five-year term on the Planning Board.

Lastly, Frederick Andrew Daniels is running for a five-year term and Nancy J. Brown is running for a two-year unexpired term on the Ware Housing Authority.

Talbot described this year’s candidate turnout as “awful” and “sad.”

She added, “A lot of communities are having issues [with this],” as there does not seem to be as much interest in joining a town office as there used to be.
On April 10, the polling location will be at the Ware Town Hall, 126 Main St. At the time of the interview, the polling times had not been determined by the Select Board.
