WARE – During a brief pre-holiday meeting, the town Selectboard on Dec. 20 recognized retiring Fire Chief Chris Gagnon who is leaving after 33 years of service. Gagnon was presented with a plaque and an open house at the Fire Department has been scheduled for Dec. 30 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Deputy Chief Jim Martinez will take over as interim fire chief at the start of the new year.
In other business, the board approved a motion for one day liquor licenses for a series of concert events to take place on four dates in January.
A vote was passed approving two separate ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) expenditures totaling $21,454.72 for Ware Community Television.
The board announced they remain in negotiations on the new town manager contract
The board determined the Small Business Recovery Grant requires further review and discussion examination has been tabled until Jan. 17
In an issue under discussion and review since the beginning of summer, a hearing on National Grid/Verizon pole installation on Coffey Hill Road and Sherman Hill Road has now been scheduled for the meeting on Jan. 17. The board approved a request from the utility to install a mid-span pole on Old Belchertown Road and relocate a second pole at Moriority Road to correct guidewires and interference from dead trees and foliage.
