WARE – Artisans, crafters and flea market vendors are wanted for the Ware Fair & Flea taking place on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. at the Ware Center Meeting House and Museum on 295 Belchertown Rd. This year’s fair will feature live music with Lori Brooks, hot dogs and chili, baked goods, crafters, flea market tables, tours of the museum, games for children and a silent auction.
The Fair & Flea is hosted annually by the Proprietors of the Ware Center Meeting House, Inc. It is the primary fundraiser for the Meeting House and ongoing restoration efforts.
The Meeting House was built in 1799. It has served as the first town hall, the first school and the parish home for the First Church of Ware. In 1986, the building was nearly destroyed in a fire. The Proprietors became the owners of the building and formed the nonprofit to restore the site for future generations. In 2009, the Ware Historical Society moved into the building and opened a museum for the public to look at artifacts from the town and region.
“The meeting house is a national treasure right here in Ware,” said Carol Zins, one of the coordinators of the event. “It is a beautiful example of a New England meeting house. It is a very important structure in the area as several towns in the area are now under the Quabbin. It is a joy to volunteer with this very dedicated group and to have a lovely event for the community.”
Doreen Waz, who is on the board of governors for the Ware Center Meeting House and is helping Zins with the plans for the event added, “We want everyone to enjoy themselves and what we earn goes toward maintaining the building. It’s important to maintain your history.”
Admission and parking for the fair are free. Vendor spaces are available for $15 per 10-foot by 10-foot spaces. For more information on the fair or to become a vendor call 967-8304, or email czins1@gmail.com.
