WARE – The Ware Grange will host the “Abound with Berries” gardening workshop on July 22 at their hall on Belchertown Road. The event’s local speaker will be Roberta McQuaid, staff horticulturist at Old Sturbridge Village.
According to Amber Vaill, vice president of the Ware Grange, this is the second workshop of the year. The Grange has been putting on these workshops since 2016 as a way to connect with the community and discuss gardening.
“We do a few of these a year,” said Vaill.
The “Abound with Berries” event will focus on growing a variety of berries such as strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, pruning the berries, keeping berry patches healthy and preserving a berry harvest.
The event is free and open to the public. There is no registration required.
Vaill encouraged residents to come out to the event to learn about growing berries and to ask any questions.
“It’s a great opportunity for anybody who is interested in learning about growing berries, may not have done so yet with their garden and just wants to get started. Also, for those who have been experienced, it’s a good opportunity to ask an expert some questions,” she said.
Future workshops and Ware Grange events will be posted on both their Facebook page and website.
“We like to do these workshops in general as an opportunity to bring the public in and help them learn about agriculture, learn about gardening and hopefully try to get some more interest in Ware Grange itself as an organization,” said Vaill.

According to Vaill, the Ware Grange is always looking for new members and anybody interested can attend their meetings or reach out to her.
