Ware School Committee’s search process for superintendent continues

Date: 1/11/2023

WARE – The search for a new superintendent of Ware Public Schools is moving swiftly as the interview process is underway.

During the Jan. 4 School Committee meeting, Chairman Christopher Desjardins shared that Tracy Novick from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) is requesting members send her any topics or questions to be used during the interviews.

Rather than sharing questions in an open session, members were able to share topic ideas.

Member Michael Foran suggested that one of the topics focus on personal attributes and style.

Desjardins noted that he would like to discuss meeting the needs of all students and decision making and judgment.

Member Julie Slattery said a few of the topics she was looking at are leadership and communication.

Vice Chairman Brian Winslow’s three topics include the district, budgeting and financial, and teaching and learning.

Before the interviews could occur, School Committee members were required to visit the finalists’ home districts, as well as the finalists visiting Ware Public Schools.

The three finalists include William E. Collins, a previous superintendent of the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School District in Parishville, NY, and past principal of William E. Norris Elementary School in Southampton; Robert J. Gerardi Jr., current superintendent of the New Shoreham School Department on Block Island; and Michael P. Lovato, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning in the Chelsea Public Schools.

On Jan. 11, 12 and 13, the interviews will take place with the applicants. Following the interviews, the School Committee will deliberate and ultimately decide on who the next superintendent will be. The new superintendent will not begin their role until July 1.
