Date: 11/18/2022

WARE – The Ware Select Board conducted a short meeting on Nov. 15 that featured discussion on the tax rate and upcoming holiday events.

The Board of Assessors was in attendance for the tax classification hearing. The purpose of the hearing was to decide whether the board would accept a single tax rate for all classes of property.

According to the Board of Assessors, they expect the tax rate to be $17.29 per $1,000 property valuation. After minimal discussion, The Select Board approved the single tax rate.

Dan Flynn, president of the Ware Business Association, then gave an update on upcoming activities on Main Street and downtown. Shop Small Weekend is coming up after Thanksgiving and there will also be a Shop and Stroll event downtown on Dec. 10.

The fifth annual Ware Tree and Wreath Festival will take place Dec. 10 and 11 at Town Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The event will feature decorated trees available for raffle with all proceeds going toward the restoration of the Ware Meeting House and Museum.

The event is free and open to the public. There will also be crafts and a homemade cookie sale.

The Select Board then approved a request for a license change for the Aspen Street Rod and Gun Club.
The club asked for the license change to be able to bring in more revenue and serve both its members and the public. They have a rental and venue space and a full food service license.

The board also received a request to begin searching for and hiring two new police officers. They approved this along with opening the contracts for education and pay considerations.
