WARE – The Ware Select Board met to discuss a variety of agenda items including the upcoming Special Town Meeting and the Pathfinder School Committee at their Oct. 18 meeting.
The meeting started with a new appointment to the Disability Awareness Committee. Resident Brittni Robidoux was approved unanimously by the Select Board.
Town Manager Stuart Beckley then gave an update on youth swim lessons. According to Beckley, swim lessons can continue year-round as long as they have a facility to use and people who are willing to pay. The town is currently pursuing Belchertown to see if they can use their pool for lessons.
The Select Board also approved the warrant for the upcoming Special Town Meeting. The meeting will take place on Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ware High School Auditorium. The board approved a total of 14 articles to be discussed.
According to Beckley, there is currently an executive assistant vacancy. He said that the advertisement for this open position has been put out to the public and the human resources director will take next steps with qualified candidates.
The Pathfinder Regional School Committee was also a topic of discussion. The board received a letter from the School Committee and the Superintendent stating that there needs to be another member appointed to the committee. This is due to the fact that Ware’s population has exceeded 10,000 people.
The vacancy for the School Committee will be posted on the website for interested individuals. The School Committee will then review candidates before the Select Board appoints a new member.
The meeting ended with Beckley’s Town Manager Report.
On Nov. 6 there will be a bulky waste collection. Beckley said that a postcard with more information will be sent by National Grid to each household in Ware.
Information on traffic flow for the Halloween Drive-Through at Grenville Park will be released soon, according to Beckley. The event will take place on Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Official Halloween trick-or-treating will then take place on Oct. 29 from 5 to 8 p.m.
