WARE – The Ware Board of Selectmen discussed a variety of agenda items including special permit requests and the upcoming Town Meeting at their April 5 meeting.
To begin the meeting, the Board of Selectmen approved the special permit request for Rock The Park, a fundraising event for Workshop 13 which will take place on June 18 at Grenville Park. The board also approved the appointment of Kristin Dougas to the Youth/Community Center Committee.
The board received a request for retiree town insurance from a long-term employee who asked to be considered to come back on the town’s insurance plan. The employee was not on the insurance when he retired from his position, but is asking for an exception to be made considering some health issues.
According to the board, they have made this exception in the past for a former superintendent. After a discussion, the request was approved on an as-needed basis.
The Annual Town Meeting will take place on May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Ware High School. The board received comments from the town counsel about establishing an account with a percentage of town marijuana money to be used for road repairs. They requested that a stabilization fund is set up for this purpose.
The board approved this warrant and it will be formally considered, along with 34 other articles, at the upcoming Town Meeting.
The Board of Selectmen also approved forwarding a proposed zoning amendment to the Planning Board for a public hearing. This amendment asks that a moratorium on battery storage for solar be created. There are currently very little bylaws about this topic and the Planning Board is asking to put one together.
A request to create a new firefighter and EMT list to fill current vacancies was also approved by the board.
