Bagel chain opens new shop in downtown West Springfield

Date: 11/2/2021

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Tandem Bagel Company, a popular breakfast and lunch spot across Hampshire County, has officially opened its first location in Hampden County, in downtown West Springfield.

Located at 95 Elm St., Tandem Bagel Co. welcomed customers on Nov. 1. Chris Zawacki and his wife, Andrea, are co-owners of Tandem Bagel Co. Their newest location is in what was once the United Bank headquarters in town.

Chris Zawacki said the new West Springfield location builds on the successes in their existing locations in Easthampton, Northampton, Hadley and Florence.

In 2013, the Zawackis opened the original Tandem Bagel in Easthampton. According to their website, their goal was to bring freshly baked bagels and “delicious” breakfast and lunch sandwiches to the Pioneer Valley. Soon, the Easthampton eatery became more than a sandwich shop, but rather a place for the community to gather.

Zawacki said he hopes to have a similar impact in his newest town.

“We want to revitalize West Springfield,” he said. He said he hopes to find frequent customers in the heavy traffic on Elm Street.

Tandem Bagel’s menu is the same across all five locations. Their breakfast offerings range from the simple bagel with cream cheese, all the way up to “Tandem Egg Sandwiches,” with spicy, fresh, savory and sweet flavors. Breakfast is served all day.

The menu reads: “Our bagels are baked fresh daily in-house using only the highest quality ingredients.”

Bagel selection varies daily, with options including blueberry, cheddar, French toast, jalapeno, pumpernickel and many more. Pairing well with any bagel is their freshly whipped cream cheese. Flavors include chive, honey walnut, bacon scallion and more. Tandem Bagel offers gluten-free and vegan items.

On the lunch menu, some of their sandwiches include classic BLT, turkey and cranberry, and tomato and mozzarella. Everything is served on a choice of a bagel, wrap or focaccia bread. Customers can also build their own sandwich. Additional offerings include salads, a soup of the day, fruit and protein smoothies, soft beverages and a sweet treat, such as a brownie or cookie.

Zawacki said he hopes the shop in West Springfield, and the entire team of new hires, is a success. He also hopes to expand his business even more to new locations.

Tandem Bagel Co. is open daily, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu can be found at www.tandembagelco.com/menu. Parking is available on the street or in the municipal lot behind the shop. For additional information on Tandem Bagel Co., visit www.tandembagelco.com.
