Donut Dip selling donut decorating kits

Date: 5/5/2020

WEST SPRINGFIELD - A local, beloved donut store is now providing a way for families to get their donut fix and stay occupied while stuck at home.

Katie Warren, whose family owns Donut Dip, now serves as a manager. She said the donut decorating box wasn’t originally an idea she had for the store, but instead a way to bring some joy to her neighbors.

“To be honest, I wanted to do something nice for my neighbors on Easter. So I put a bunch of donuts and frosting in a box,” she told Reminder Publishing.

Somewhere along the way, a photo of the kit was posted to Facebook, where Warren said demand for the kits quickly grew. “They started calling, so the demand was there,” she said.

Warren said Donut Dip first started advertising the kits via social media on April 28, and began selling the kits on April 29. She said the first day that the kits were made available, they sold around 25 kits.

“A lot of people came in to get them,” she said.

While people are able to call ahead and order the kits, Warren said the kits will also be made available upon request for those visiting the shop. “You don’t have to call ahead, they’re more than welcome to, but we do have them,” she said. “We’re trying to make sure we make enough donuts so if someone came in, we could put the kit together.”

The kits are made up of six donuts, frosting and sprinkles. They will have “plain, honey dipped donuts, six of those, two cups of frosting and a cup of sprinkles,” which Warren said, “should be more than enough for the donuts.”

While the kit comes with one container of chocolate frosting and one container of strawberry frosting, Warren said, if someone preferred “two chocolate [frostings] or one vanilla that’s fine.”

The kits cost $8.99 and can be ordered by calling 733-9604 or at the store on 1305 Riverdale St. Warren said while “things are different in terms of coming in” to the store, they are “still open” and “still available for takeout” like they were before.
