Majestic Theater plans to reopen Aug. 7 with ‘The Pitch’

Date: 5/28/2021

WEST SPRINGFIELD – The Majestic Theater will reopen on Aug. 7 due to Governor Charlie Baker’s updated plan, with the opening night of their new play “The Pitch” starting at 8 p.m. that night.

“All along, our plan has been to finish the run of ‘The Pitch’ that we had to interrupt March 14, 2020. We will do it starting on Aug. 7. All ticket holders for ‘The Pitch’ who did not attend a performance at the Majestic, even if you saw the online video, will be allowed to attend a performance. We will send an updated schedule of performance dates,” Producing Director Danny Eaton stated.

For example, if someone has tickets for ‘The Pitch’ that were for  March 14, 2020, at 8 p.m., they would be given a new ticket for the performance on Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. This reticketing approach would continue for the remainder of “The Pitch.”

“The Pitch” will run for three weeks, from Aug. 7 to 29, with performances hosted Wednesday through Sunday.

The Majestic is currently establishing policies for the audience regarding attendees that are vaccinated and those that are not, although there will be no social distancing due to the structure of the seating.

Actors Equity is requiring that all performers and production crew be fully vaccinated. Eaton stated they will carry that policy on through next year.

“If you want to perform at the Majestic, you must be vaccinated,” Eaton said.

The Majestic has been closed since March 2020. Staff has had weekly zoom meetings and interview shows that they tried for a few weeks up until the new year.

“The business of theater, live theater, and even film and movies have been devastated with this pandemic, I think even worse than restaurants. We haven’t been able to do anything for a year and four months now,” Eaton said.

He stated they will have a full season planned in September.

“Unfortunately, due to our reopening date and our need to complete the run of ‘The Pitch,’ we cannot schedule any summer concerts this year. We will start our 24th season on Sept. 9. We will mail that season's information along with our plans for ‘9 to 5: The Musical.’ We are working on establishing ‘best practices’ within the Majestic Theater that will allow for the sensible and safe return of our patrons, staff, and performers,” Eaton stated.
