WEST SPRINGFIELD – In less than a year, West Springfield will begin celebrating the 250th anniversary of its incorporation as a town, and the kick-off for the fundraising effort for events next year will starts with a Mayoral Ball this Feb. 24.
Mayor William Reichelt told Reminder Publishing, “We are incredibly excited to celebrate this monumental piece of West Springfield’s history. Our goal is to highlight the many things that make our city stand out from others. Since our inception from 1774 to now, we have come so far from our transition in government to the services we are able to provide our residents. In 2024 we will strive to show our residents why we are the best place to live, work and play by providing offerings and experiences.”
West Springfield was originally part of Springfield. The Legislature granted a petition to break West Springfield off and incorporate it as a separate town on Feb. 23, 1774.
The black tie formal event will take place at the Storrowton Carriage House from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 24. The ball will feature a first look at the new anniversary logo and town seal, as well as what organizers describe as a “walk through history” with the West Springfield Timeline booklet.
Tickets are $50.
Currently the organizers, led by Carly Camossi, chief of operations for the town, are looking for businesses and individuals to support the ball and the West Springfield Timeline Booklet. Sponsorships for the event in the timeline booklet are priced at $100 to $200. The deadline is Jan. 27.
The premier sponsor for the anniversary celebration is PeoplesBank.
Camossi is looking to partner with businesses in town to help sponsor anniversary activities. She wrote in a press release, “We would love to hear your story and highlight what you have to offer our residents, how long you have been in West Springfield, and if you are going to participate in our 250 Celebration. Being mindful that not all local businesses can donate monetarily, we wanted to offer other ways that the town of West Springfield can support you at no cost. Giving an example, we are going to be partnering with a local bake shop who will have a specialty cupcake in 2024. This does not go above and beyond their normal course of business, while we are able to generate some buzz around your business for our celebration.”
Among the activities planned for 2024 are “our birthday party, golf tournament, 5K race series, family photo sessions, lecture series, murals, a new take on the Taste/block party, parade and much more,” Camossi noted.
