New England Food Truck Festival to return to West Side in June

Date: 6/4/2019

WEST SPRINGFIELD – For the fifth year in a row, people from around the region will have a chance to explore different foods as they eat their way through the New England Food Truck Festival at the Eastern States Exposition fairgrounds.

New England Food Truck Festival bills itself as the Largest Food Truck Festival on the East Coast with almost 50 food trucks in attendance. The variety of flavors represented means that just about anyone can find something they enjoy.

There is Latin-American cuisine from Rolling Dish and Cantina Curbside Grill, Canadian favorites from Poutine Gourmet, and Asian inspired flavors from Ming’s Asian and The Nom Nom Hut. There are also hotdogs, hamburgers, and grilled cheese, by Boston Trolley Dogs, Ted’s Steamed Cheeseburgers, and Say Cheese, respectively.

If you’re in the mood for something sweet, you’ll have plenty of choices. Among them are Clyde’s Cupcakes, Meriano’s Canoli Truck, The Whoopie Wagon, Stuffit Bananas, Ben & Jerry’s Farm 2 Truck, and Moolicious. A full list of trucks can be found at www.nefoodtruckfest.com.

The festival, which takes place on June 22 from noon to 9 p.m. and June 23 from noon to 7 p.m., will be in the outdoor area around the Better Living Center. Tickets are $6, each day, if bought online in advance or $8 at the gate. The event is free for children under 6 years old. A $10 two-day pass is also available. The price of admission does not include the cost of food.

There is also a $35 VIP ticket that includes early access from 11 a.m. to noon, each day. In addition to beating the crowds, the pass allows people to try samples from seven food trucks, only offered during that hour. VIP ticket holders also get one free draft beer or non-alcoholic beverage and a cupcake from the NoRA Cupcake Truck.

“We love it,” Teri Goulette, owner of Say Cheese, said about the festival. “We feel like this is the festival that put us on the map.”

This is the first year at the New England Food Truck Festival for Disco Forno, which specializes in wood-fired pizza and DJ services. Owner Brandon Gervickas said he’s excited to be taking part, though he doesn’t know what to expect for a crowd.

“It’s always better to bring more than run out,” Gervickas said.

The Nom Nom Hut, which offers Japanese cuisine – food truck style, has been a staple of the festival since it began in West Springfield five years ago. Owner Marcy Megarry said the crowd size greatly depends on the weather, but added, “It’s a pretty good time for everyone who comes out.”

In addition to the food, local bands will provide musical entertainment and there will also be face painting for kids.

This year’s festival is sponsored by The Lemon Press, Ready Set Drift, Stacked On Track, T-Mobile, and Back Bay Roasters & Brewers, along with the radio stations KISS 95.7, Country 92.5, LAZER 99.3 and 98.5, and Rock 102.
