WEST SPRINGFIELD – On March 2 and 3, Old Deerfield Craft Fairs will host their annual Spring Sampler Craft Fair inside the Young Building at the Eastern States Exposition. Over 160 artisan craft booths, food, live fiddle music and free craft activities will be offered at the event.
Old Deerfield Craft Fairs is celebrating two decades of their annual Spring Sampler Craft Fair this year. Ella Colton, Craft Fair Coordinator, said “This will be our twentieth annual Spring Sampler Craft Fair. This is our most petite production and we fill up every nook and cranny within the Young Building.”
Among items to be found at the craft fair will be jewelry, ceramics, fine art, home and garden décor, apparel and specialty foods. Live music will be performed by Annika Amstutz and David Kaynor. Amstutz and Kaynor are fiddlers and conductors for the Fiddle Orchestra of Western Massachusetts.
Colton said that this event is an exciting welcome to the spring weather. “After the winter holiday months, most artists retreat to their workshops and studios to begin dreaming up new creations for the coming year. The Spring Sampler is, for many crafters, the first opportunity to present their new works.” Colton said.
Non-profit organization The Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association will provide free craft activities for the event. The Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association is a cultural and historical organization. Annually, Old Deerfield Craft Fairs host three fairs to fundraise for The Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association. The three fairs include the Spring Sampler, Holiday Sampler and Fall Festival events.
All ages are welcome to participate in the fairy house activity. Participants will be invited to build their own miniature fairy or nature home as well as miniature birds and fairies to place inside. Materials from nature and upcycled materials will be incorporated into the free activities including moss, acorns, pinecones and tree bark.
Included in the creations that will be showcased are handmade teddy bears, paintings, original fiber apparel and accessories, barrel-aged balsamic vinegars and oils, beeline skincare, shaker boxes, metal works and handmade cotton and leather handbags.
Among the vendors featured are Barn Fresh Designs, As the Crow Flies, Color My World Hand-Dyed Creations, East Knoll Pottery, Harry’s Birdhouses, Garden Clay Works, Master Engravers, Inklings Artwork, Rainbow Glass, Moonbound Jewelery, Soy of Life, RePurpose Me, Winnie Wear Collars, The Mill Fudge Factory and Worn New England.
