UPS employees protest work conditions in West Springfield

Date: 5/28/2021

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Employees and their families stood outside the UPS facility at 120 Wayside Ave. in West Springfield on May 22 to protest alleged demands made by the company regarding scheduling and time off.

According to employee Dan Arlin, who organized the standout, UPS has required six-day-a-week scheduling for more than a year and has threatened disciplinary action on those who do not agree to work on their days off. Many drivers entering and exiting honked or waved in approval as approximately a dozen people hoisted handmade signs, cheered fellow employees and occasionally chanted.

In response to a request for comment, UPS issued a statement that said, “We value our employees, appreciate their contributions to the communities where we live and work, and respect their right to assemble. We offer our employees multiple ways to share their concerns with us, and we have regular dialogue with Local 404. We are hiring in Springfield / Pittsfield and encourage interested applicants to apply online at jobs-ups.com.”
