WEST SPRINGFIELD – The West Springfield Public Schools recently unveiled a new mobile application that will help get pertinent information out to students, faculty and family alike.
The application, found in the App Store and Google Play store under "West Springfield SD," brings information about West Springfield Public Schools to the hands of the user.
Upon opening the application for the first time, users are given the option to select all schools that are applicable to them. Labels such as Notifications, Calendar, News, School Committee, Athletics and Menus allow those involved with schools to access information.
Superintendent of West Springfield Public Schools Michael Richard said that the mobile application is a response to the communication devices being utilized by faculty, students and their families.
“We have been making a concerted effort to be more responsive to the modes of communication that students and families are using. The idea of being able to 'push' information to the community in lieu of waiting for them to go looking is advantageous to the District,” Richard said.
Richard continued, “The mobile app is part of the SchoolMessenger suite of products. It is designed to interface with the District's website. Users will be able to search for information, including the calendar of events, PowerSchool, Athletics, breakfast and lunch menus and more.”
PowerSchool is a nationwide program that allows students and parents or guardians to access information such as grading, attendance, assessment, instruction and learning.
Richard said he feels that it is important for the West Springfield Public Schools to incorporate a mobile application in the District.
“As students and families become more attached to their mobile devices, the District needs to be responsibe to that and provide information in a way that meets their needs,” Richard said.
The mobile application is free to download and available for Apple and Android users.
