Cars get clean, students get life skills through TWB annual fundraiser

Date: 7/29/2022

HAMPDEN/WILBRAHAM – The summer program at Thornton W. Burgess School (TWB) wants your dirty vehicles.

Anthony Zaremba, Hampden Wilbraham Regional School District (HWRSD) Transition Program teacher, said that the annual car wash is back for three days this summer.

From Aug. 1 to Aug. 3. between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. each day, students in the Transitional program and summer classes will wash cars and trucks for $5 each, although larger donations will be accepted. Proceeds from the car wash will raise money for the Hampden Police Department’s annual Public Safety Night in October.
Zaremba explained to Reminder Publishing that the car wash is more than a fundraiser. The event serves as an opportunity for the high-needs students at TWB to engage with the public, make signs and research topics such as how much of each supply will be needed.

“Students learn life skills, social skills. All students here have unique individual needs,” Zaremba said. This year, the summer students will be helping with the car wash under the direction of Zaremba and his fellow teachers, Amberlee Parker and Michaela Socha.
TWB is located at 85 Wilbraham Rd., Hampden.
