HAMPDEN – Self-Care and Mindful Living teacher Kate Forest is coming to the Hampden Public Library on June 23 at 12 p.m. to kick off the library’s adult summer reading program.
The hour-long program is based on self-care and stress release for busy people, and will teach those in attendance, “short, simple and healthy ways to navigate the stressful situations and pure overwhelm that can be a daily occurrence for many people in our world,” Forest said.
Aside from being a self-care and mindful living teacher, Forest is a speaker, trainer, world care advocate and the owner of Self Care Moments. For the past two decades Forest has been sharing her approach to living and learning with schools, universities, families, individuals and organizations. Forest holds a certificate in Mindfulness in Education along with extensive training in advanced-level certifications in the practice of yoga and mindfulness. In addition, at the Scantic Valley YMCA in Wilbraham, Forest teaches Self Care Yoga.
Forest explains that the program at the Hampden Library will teach adults how to release stress, strengthen relationships, build focus and resilience, cultivate patience, ease physical discomfort and practice greater kindness to oneself and others.
“When you create space in your busy life to care kindly for yourself, even a few moments at a time, you have greater health, plus more energy, patience, compassion, courage and attention to share with others. This positive energy ripples out and affects our families, our relationships, our schools, communities, workplaces and our entire world in a positive and peaceful way,” Forest explained.
She shared that adults, teens and children alike can use self-care tools and mindfulness to help strengthen all areas of their lives including socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically.
Self care skills, Forest explained; include breaking breaks, movement breaks, reflective activities, intentional rest, collaboration activities, mindful coloring, and more.
The Hampden Public Library at 625 Main St. will house the event from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on June 23. The event will be free. For more information, go to kateforest.com.
