HAMPDEN – The Scantic River Artisans are preparing for their second show of the season April 29 and 30, this time exhibiting in a space graciously donated by the Hampden Senior Center.
The event, which includes an artist reception with refreshments from noon to 2 p.m. on April 29, will offer the public the opportunity to view and in many cases, purchase work produced by the artists in this group. Hours for the show are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 29 and noon to 4 p.m. on April 30. The Hampden Senior Center is located at 104 Allen St.
“What a beautiful venue. I can’t thank the town enough and the director [of the senior center]. There’s over 300 feet of exhibit space,” said Nan Hurlburt, president of the Scantic River Artisans.
Hurlburt said she expects the majority of artisans to exhibit work at this show, and that 85 percent of the pieces on display would be for sale. Members of the Artisans work in a variety of mediums, including paint, woodworking, sculpture, photography, jewelry making, poetry and as authors, she added. According to Hurlburt, the youngest member of the group is 19 and the oldest is 87.
She hopes visitors will come in time for the artist reception, which, she said is the artists “opportunity to talk to people about their art and what they are doing” in their medium. The senior center is going to allow the artwork to remain on display for the next six weeks. The public can “come and tour the gallery” during the center’s regular hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., she said.
Those who miss the Scantic River Artisans during their Hampden Senior Center show will have another opportunity to view work by this group when the Wilbraham Public Library, 25 Crane Park Drive, hosts an exhibition by the group May 10 to 26. There will also be an artist’s reception May 13, noon to 2 p.m.
