HAMPDEN - The eight Girl Scouts of Troop 40160 made a presentation to the Hampden Board of Selectmen on the ecological and economic benefits of hand dryers as opposed to paper towels. Olivia Marquez, Antonia Mascaro, Amelia Persaud, Giana Hall, Maya Marquez, Kate Pronovost, Yazmin Tafolla-Chapin and Juliet Danehey showed off their researching skills and told the officials that paper towels represent 254 million tons of trash yearly. By not purchasing paper towels for the Town House, the dryers will save the town $37,000 over ten years. The troop donated two XLERATOR hand dryers from Excel, a company located in East Longmeadow.
