HARDWICK — The Hardwick Board of Selectmen hosted a meeting on Feb. 13 to discuss and vote on multiple projects in town.
Using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, a 20-foot storage container will be purchased for the Police Department. Select Board Chair Julie Quink explained that the board and Police Chief James Ayotte talked about this prior and asked the Police Department for three quotes on it.
Based on the three quotes, the best option was to use Island Industries out of Brookfield.
Select Board member Kelly Kemp made a motion to use ARPA funds to pay for the storage container in the total amount of $5,330. The motion was seconded and unanimously approved.
Quink noted that the storage containers will be used for evidence, as part of the evidence is currently being stored in the Town Hall and there are some concerns with water damage and accessibility.
New website domain
Town Administrator Nicole Parker said the town’s website will be changing to a .gov domain. “It’s sort of been pushed by the state and federal government along with all of the IT firms and even our insurance who do cyber security for us,” she shared. Parker said they informed her it is “much more secure” when you have a .gov versus a .com, although she is unsure as to why.
Wellness grant
Parker shared that the town received an “easily gotten” wellness grant to purchase equipment primarily for employees.
The equipment includes tables, chairs, a couch, soft lights, fake plants and more, all to be placed in the break room – formerly the treasurer/collector office. Parker noted, the town received picnic tables for the Fire and Highway departments to utilize when the weather improves. Parker also received stand-up desks for people who do not want to sit all day.
“The employees are happy with that,” she shared.
Appointments
Ned Kelly was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Hardwick Council on Aging. His term will expire on June 30.
