Warren awarded grant funding, announces job openings

Date: 6/20/2022

WARREN – The town of Warren will be receiving an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant in the amount of $280,000.

Town Administrator James Ferrera informed the Board of Selectmen during their June 16 meeting that the town was awarded this grant. He explained that the town will be providing 20 percent of that funding.

This makes for “a [total of] $350,000 investment in the town’s Master Plan and Recovery Plan,” said Ferrera.

“This was a great effort by everybody who participated in this,” he added.

Ferrera recognized the Board of Selectmen for taking the initiative to pursue something like this.

He said they received “extensive” documentation from the EDA that he needs to review, along with going through a required training before the town can receive these funds.

Ferrera said they have received correspondence, including a call from U.S. Sen. Edward Markey’s office. He shared that Markey’s office expressed excitement for Warren and are looking forward to seeing how the town progresses from this.

“It’s really an exciting time for Warren to get these funds and to see where it can lead to and what development opportunities are ahead,” said Ferrera. “It’s really going to be a helpful tool I think for the Board of Selectmen to see how economic development will spin in this community after a full analysis is done.”

Job Postings

Ferrera shared that two job openings have been posted in town for a full-time police officer position and an assistant assessor.

He explained that the Police Department is looking for as many resumes as possible, from Warren residents. The deadline to apply is July 1. He said any interested residents are encouraged to apply.
Ferrera went on to say that the current assistant assessor has resigned as of June 30 and this position needs to be filled.

He said both positions will be posted on the town of Warren website at https://www.warren-ma.gov/.
