WARREN – The Warren Board of Selectmen discussed and voted on three uses for the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds awarded to the town during their Oct. 27 meeting.
Town Administrator James Ferrera informed the board of some new requests made by departments in town for ARPA funds. This included the Fire Department’s proposal on a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado plow truck in the amount of $56,780.
Ferrera explained that there is also a reserve for an allocation of $8,000.
He said he anticipates this will be the cost to pay for an ARPA audit that the town is going to be required to do. “I would recommend that we reserve some funds for that for when that happens,” he added.
The third request was from the Highway Department. They requested $12,425 for a computer control system for sand and salt that will monitor how much is being put on the roads as sand and salt prices rise.
Before voting, Ferrera told the board that if these requests are approved and the audit encumbered those funds, the town would be left with $115,177 in ARPA funds. He noted that the remaining funds could be used for projects that may arise over the next few months.
“It’s tough to anticipate what the economy is going to be doing but it is a very voluble market out there as everybody knows,” said Ferrera. “Prices have gone up significantly but these capital investments that the board has decided to make in various departments will help for future budgets that we won’t have to address these matters right away.”
The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to approve all three ARPA requests.
