WEST WARREN – The Village Market & Deli is having their Third Annual Easter Basket Raffle starting now until the drawing on April 16.
Raffle tickets are $1 each, with baskets contains two kites, a paddle ball, squishy palz, peeps, a bubble pop toy, double bubble eggs, chocolate carrots, a drawing book, a chocolate Easter bunny, an Easter cross, two travel board games, a tootsie rolls tube, egg coloring cups and a variety of candies.
Owner of the Village Market & Deli, Jeanna Stewart, explained that they are no strangers to hosting raffles. “We always do raffles. We’ve done baskets for all of the holidays, including Christmas and Thanksgiving. It’s something that we do every season.”
She continued, “The idea behind it is it’s a community that’s a little bit more in need, and the basket is loaded with items a family can use. They’re not just simple little baskets, we make sure we have enough into the basket so that the community can really appreciate it and benefit, continue to come back and help out others.”
The Village Market & Deli is a one-stop shop that offers pizza, ice cream, subs, sandwiches, deli, grocery, an ATM, Notary Public, a fax and copy machine, lottery and much more.
Stewart was a social worker for 25 years. She explained to Reminder Publishing she needed a change, and the opportunity for purchasing the store came about. “My family has always owned their own businesses and it was just something that I wanted to venture into and I knew that it would be a success,” Stewart responded.
For the upcoming holiday, the store has an Easter menu providing customers sides and dessert for their Easter dinner.
For the Easter raffle, she said they’ve had up 150-200 participants in the past. Residents can come to the store where they have the option to pay for raffle tickets through PayPal and Venmo. The raffle ticket cost is used to cover the basket items, and what is left over is then donated to the Warren Senior Center, which is located next to the business. Throughout the year, Stewart donates various items to the center, will donate money, or any general needs the center has. Her goal for the raffle, she said, is to make back the cost of the basket and double it so she can give the funds to the Senior Center.
“This might go back to my social work,” said Stewart. “I’ve always been someone to help the community. I’ve always been a giver and worked with children, teens and elders. Even though I’m a store owner, I still have that social worker mentality and I still like to give where I can give.”
She went on to say, “Someone can get a basket that’s worth $100 for a dollar if they win. I’d like for people that really could use the baskets win it for a dollar – simple as that.”
