West Warren Library Association stays connected to the community

Date: 7/1/2022

WEST WARREN – On June 6, the West Warren Library Association provided, through grant funding, 95 small, take-home gardening kits for children who visited the West Warren Library.

Library Director Samantha Evans told Reminder Publishing the whole idea of the event was to get children and families to work together and, in their community, along with encouraging children to learn new skills and be outdoors. The library gave away approximately 34 kits and kept the event going for two weeks to make sure everyone had to time to drop by and pick up a kit.

Right now, the library is having their summer reading programs from June 29 through Aug. 24. For their children’s summer reading, the theme is “Read Beyond the Beaten Path.” They will read a story on Wednesdays and have a small craft at 1 p.m. The children can read any book in the library and use it on their reading log. Anyone under 18 years of age can join the children’s summer reading, but the stories and crafts are aimed at the elementary school age range.

The adult and senior citizen summer reading is 18 and up. The library will provide a list of materials readers can choose from as recommendations, and they are allowed to pick any items to use toward the program. To register, residents must come into the library and sign up at any time during the programs.

“As a library, our main goal is making sure we’re involved in the community providing events and programs for people,” said Evans. “During this post-COVID[-19] time we are enjoying seeing all the people come into the library. We are taking into consideration everyone in the community and serving each individual at their different comfort levels to the best of our ability by providing optional services.”

The library is still providing curbside pick-up but also encouraging those who would like to come in to visit. Additionally, the library also has their book club on the third Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m.- 11 a.m. The club reads a variety of books, and the members vote on what to read next.

“Libraries are important in every community,” Evans concluded. “We provide sources of information and a pivotal point in the community where people can come and interact.”
