Donald L Davenport, chairman of the Hampden Board of Selectman has announced that he will seek a second three-year term on the board.
In making the announcement Davenport stated, “While challenging I have enjoyed the opportunity to represent the residents of Hampden. I am running again because I want to continue to work for Hampden’s future. We have had significant accomplishments over the past few years, but there is still more to do to insure a healthy, prosperous, and sustainable future for Hampden.
“I am proud that working with town officials, neighboring communities, state government and residents we have been able to reduce the tax rate two years in a row, institute 24-hour advanced life support ambulance service, establish state of the art emergency communications for police, fire and ambulance, expand the highway garage, provide expanded health services through a shared agreement and have begun to address municipal infrastructure vulnerability with the aid of a state grant. All with an eye toward building and preparing for the future. In addition, we have addressed drinking water issues on Main Street and removed hundreds of dangerous and diseased trees with no effect on the town tax rate.
“As we build toward the future, I look forward to working with residents and community leaders on careful and fiscally responsible use of federal and state funds that will be provided to the town through the American Rescue Plan Act, working to establish state of the art high speed fiber optic service to the town, considering expansion of the senior center and upgrading the fire department building, and conducting a town government study.
“Hampden matters. There is much to do, and I welcome the opportunity to serve. I respectfully ask for your vote at the town election on May 16 and remind everyone to attend the Town Meeting on May 9.”
