So the editor of this family newspaper proudly announces in last week’s Opinion Column that he went and viewed an over-the-hill porn “star” because she happens to be suing the President for something that allegedly occurred years before Trump ever even thought of running for President. Michael Dobbs seems to think that her suing the President makes it noteworthy news. By my count, half the Attorneys General in the US and all Trump’s business competitors are constantly suing him, so how this makes Daniels special is beyond me.
Dobbs explains that if Daniels prevails – a big “if”, Mike – she will become “part of American history”. Perhaps he means history like JFK and Marilyn Monroe, or Bill Clinton and all his conquests. He breathlessly writes that “Daniels would be in the ranks of Monica Lewinski . . .” Wow! Except it seems to me that Monica Lewinski was a naif taken advantage of by a sitting president in the Oval Office, while Daniels was reportedly a willing participant with a private citizen nowhere near the White House. How can a journalist equate these two situations with a straight face?
Dobbs closes by excusing Daniels for just “cashing in on her moment of fame [which] people in this nation have been doing for years.” Well, yes, Mike; but they usually have done it in the National Enquirer or Penthouse, not in the Reminder. It may be that stripping and hooking are now considered “moral” by lots of folks, but they are still vulgar and tawdry and do not deserve newsprint in East Longmeadow.
