Dorsey For CEO

Date: 12/20/2022

Springfield’s Martin Luther King (MLK) Community Center is looking for a new CEO.

Given its stated mission to empower the aspirations of individuals, families and youth to achieve the realities of peace, social and economic justice, it would seem to be a herculean task to find an individual worthy of such an exalted position.

Perhaps a nationwide search for just such a person is in order, I would assume that search is already underway, given the importance and responsibility of this position. The MLK center will of course perform its due diligence regarding every candidate.

Finding a candidate who embodies the core ideals of MLK, social and economic justice, peace, and opportunity for everyone, regardless of their race, religon, or politics. A person who lives by these ideals. A person who puts the needs of others above his own. A person whose life is dedicated to helping people.
We are blessed to have many dedicated leaders here in Springfield. However, there is one leader here in Springfield who I believe would make a great fit for the MLK center: Mr. Mark Dorsey.

Mark is a doer, He gets things done. He is involved in many local groups and causes. Mark is a member of the East Forest Park Civic Association a member of the Ward 7 Democratic committee, a parishoner at Holy Cross Church, Mark has organized several CP3 events bringing kids and the police together to share joy and gifts. Mark is a long standing member of the group, Neighbor to Neighbor, an organization which was very instrumental in the defeat of the proposed biomass facility in East Springfield.

Mark is also the head coach of the Pope Francis junior varsity hockey team. I have been with him on several occasions where he has spent his own money to give to a food bank.

There is an old saying that goes something like this, “If you really need to get something done, ask a busy man”

Mark Dorsey gets things done. Mark would be a wonderful choice to be the next CEO of our MLK Center.
