The membership of the East Longmeadow Republican Town Committee met on Oct. 19 and voted to adopt the following positions on the four ballot questions on the November ballot:
Question 1 – Additional Tax on Income Over $1 Million
Vote “No.” The state is currently awash in tax revenue; Gov. Baker is planning to return nearly $3 billion in excess revenue to taxpayers. The tax will chase more businesses and their owners out of the state, and there is no guarantee the revenue will go to infrastructure or education.
Question 2 – Regulation of Dental Insurance
Vote “No.” Excessive regulation such as this invariably increases the costs of a product, due to additional documentation and oversight, and this will result in a rise in dental premiums.
Question 3 – Expanded Availability of Licenses for the Sale of Alcoholic Beverages
Vote “No.”. Changing the alcoholic beverage licensing will benefit large corporations at the expense of smaller local businesses.
Question 4 – Eligibility for Driver’s Licenses
Vote “No.” Gov. Baker has made it known that the RMV does not have the capacity to verify documents from other countries presented by unlawful residents and this bill actually limits the RMV’s ability to share citizenship with other entities responsible for ensuring only citizens register to vote.
There are additional non-binding questions listed on a some East Longmeadow ballots. The Committee took no position on these.
