The playing fields for the youth in East Longmeadow are a shame. The soccer fields are in terrible condition and in some cases, dangerous to play on. The baseball fields are not far behind. I think the DPW does a great job in maintaining the fields, but typically there is nothing to maintain. We are tired of travelling to neighboring communities to see better facilities with lights and lawn sprinkler systems. We need fields that are not used for multiple purposes (Heritage Park and Mapleshade). Pine Knoll is not the answer as it may have been nice in the 60's but not today. It should be demolished. We are tired of grass root efforts and we want the Select and School boards to be pro-active and not re-active. This should start at the top. (No more car washes, I'm begging). This should be a town project not a private effort. Then next we can work on the gym space problem. Martin Grudgen East Longmeadow |
