On Monday night the Springfield City Council passed a meaningless resolution directing City Departments to make Springfield a Sanctuary City. As a strong mayor city they have no authority to do this, as a matter of fact the organization chart in several City Financial documents show that the only two departments they have direct management of are the city clerk and the Internal Audit Department. If they wanted to show a disagreement with the mayor on this issue, they could have sent a letter to the editor or press release signed by all 13 councilors, and not in violation of the City Charter. It is a shame that none of our councilors have seemed to have read the City Charter, or looked at the organizational charts in the City Budget or Audit.
