Mayoral Election

Election pundits cited many reasons for Mr. Sarno's upset over Mayor Ryan. Not mentioned was the enmity of Springfield's employees and retirees.

Much of Springfield's recovery was at the expense of these people such as:

a) Below inflation contract raises.

b) Termination of cafeteria and custodial workers; hired back as temps without benefits.

c) Changes in insurance with increased costs, etc.

d) Ending the Canadian prescription plan.

All these employees and retirees and their families vote. Morale among these workers is at an all time low.

Were they a factor giving Mr. Sarno a thousand vote margin? I believe so.
