In response to the letter by Donalyn Gross, Sept 29 - Oct 5, I beg to differ with your position as to how children should learn about animals. I do believe that one does need to pet, feed, and ogle animals to truly know about them and learn to respect them. I’m a true believer in animals rights and think that all life should be treated with respect and kindness. I don’t believe that by watching nature programs on the television or internet one can gain an appreciation for life in all it’s forms.
I’m sure my feelings are based on my being an octogenarian who enjoyed zoos and circuses.
