How sad that Big Y is forcing Alex’s Bagel Shop to close. Alex’s and its predecessor Kimmel’s has been a mainstay in Longmeadow for over 50 years. It seems like this is another case of a large corporation killing off the small businessman to increase their own profits.
What really gets me is the disingenuous comments from Mathieu D’Amour about all the years notice given to Alex to find another location in Longmeadow. Mr. D’Amour I’m sure is aware that this mom and pop operation cannot afford the rents in town, just as he was aware of the inevitable fate of Brightwood Hardware.
So thanks to Big Y, we have no hardware store and soon no bagel shop. Congratulations Big Y.
