Thank you

Date: 9/20/2022

My campaign to serve in the state Senate came up short in the final count and I called Jake Oliveria on election night to congratulate him on a spirited race. I am asking you to join me in a coordinated effort so we can secure a Democratic victory for the entire ticket – from Maura Healey to Jake – in November. I am grateful for every voter who turned out in the rain on the election day – you are the ones who make our democracy work.

Let’s be clear – I didn’t run for office to be someone. I ran for office to do something. We need to build communities where people have the option to stay here and thrive. That means building West-East rail, creating better jobs, combating climate change and fighting for equitable access for reproductive care. My commitment to our community has only strengthened and I will continue to champion #WestMassBestMass in every aspect of my life.

Running for office isn’t easy but I have learned that we can all do hard things. While this wasn’t our campaign’s desired outcome, I am proud of our positive and policy focused campaign.

We introduced innovative legislation and policy plans to demolish the Springfield Courthouse, fund cancer screenings for firefighters, expand abortion access resources, combat fake pregnancy care centers, and more. To my continued surprise, we received an unprecedented level of support from some of the most influential political leaders, labor unions and community champions. Maybe it was a fever dream or maybe it was a moment in history, but let’s not forget the iconic fundraiser hosted by my friend and climate champion Carole King.

When we started this race, I was completely unknown to voters in this district. Together, with a clear legislative vision to secure our fair share of state funding and your passionate support for my candidacy, our message reached thousands of voters. Thank you for believing in our campaign.

No one told me running for state Senate would be this much fun. Sure, there were long days and late nights but I had the time of my life, and made lasting friendships while deepening my commitment to the 413.

I can only hope that someone somewhere is inspired to take the same risk to serve their community. You can do it. I believe in you.

Please promise me that you will always be optimistic but never satisfied. I dare you to find the nerve to really believe in yourself, take on big problems and execute real solutions. It won’t be easy but it will be worth it.

Thank you for participating in our democracy. I hope that this campaign is one you can always be proud of and I intend to continue making you proud by working to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November.
