There’s no place like Springfield

Date: 8/31/2017

With enjoyment of these past summer months almost behind us, we have had some great events happening right here in the city of homes. Back in May we started with the pancake breakfast along with public school graduations at the Symphony Hall. Downtown had a fair share of events going on all summer long.

From White Lion Wednesdays and Thunderbird Thursdays, to the classic cars on Monday. These were all a part of our summer fun line up in downtown Springfield. We saw outdoor movies, as well as concerts all over the city. The Show at Forest Park was a good time had by all! Mother Nature cooperated at all events, and it even seemed that Boomer and Squeaky where everywhere.

The month of August kicked off with everyone’s favorite night in the city, National Night Out! All the people who spend hours of their own time to plan and fundraise, while getting others to do the same. These events would not have been possible without the hard work from our city residents, the people who really care about the good of mankind. The best part of it all, was seeing firsthand how the people of this city, have come together united as neighbors to make events such as these possible. August 1st, may go down as one of the best nights we had all summer long, city-wide.

One of the most wonderful events happened downtown right at Court Square!! The Jazz and Roots Festival was here in downtown Springfield and truly was a hit!!! You may have heard of the Newport Jazz Festival? Now we have that mark right here in the City of Homes. The Community Music School students and teachers all put a lot of time and effort in to this event. They attended a band camp taught by Charles Neville, which covered the traditional second live parade.

It all kicked off at 10 a.m. with what else, but a parade right down State Street.

The lineup of musicians would be too long to truly cover all the wonderful performances that took place on that great day. The last sounding note was played well into a hot August night, memories, or should I say tunes, that we will always remember. Thanks to the help from CCRC, our city is certainly on the right track! Springfield is the place we all like to call home. With that said, we would like to tip our cap to Springfield’s favorite son – our Mayor Domenic Sarno!
