Working toward a safer community

Date: 12/21/2021

I want to make everyone aware of how all of us at the Community Survival Center in Indian Orchard are working to safeguard our community.

Our staff is small and we rely on many volunteers. The Board of Directors feels it is their duty to provide a workplace free of known hazards, to safeguard the health of our employees, volunteers, families, clients, and visitors. All employees and volunteers are therefore required to provide proof of vaccination for COVID 19, and booster vaccinations when available, until such time that the threat of infection is over as determined by the CDC. We all wear masks and require our clients and visitors to do the same.

We are so lucky to have enough food to take care of our families for the next few months. So many area businesses held food drives for us and filled up the Pantry shelves. We are grateful to all who have been so generous with food donations. With our shelves so full, we will gladly take monetary donations to help with operational expenses like keeping the lights on and the refrigerators running.

We are once again taking clothing and household donations, albeit limited to two containers/vehicle/week. The container is up to the donor, bags, boxes, or totes. We take donations Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. till 4:30 p.m.. Please note that the Center is closed the last week of December.

Our Emergency Food Pantry provides bagged groceries to eligible households from Ludlow, Wilbraham, and Hampden as well as the Indian Orchard, Sixteen Acres, and Pine Point neighborhoods of Springfield, up to six times a year. Eligible seniors may live anywhere in Hampden County and visit the pantry each month. Pantry clients with young children who are not yet enrolled in school are also eligible for monthly visits where they receive 20 breakfasts, 20 lunches, and 20 snacks for their child.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity,

Mary Cassidy
Executive Director
