#38 Jeff Deslauriers

Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers is in his fourth season of professional hockey and he currently leads all Springfield netminders in wins with four. Deslauriers was the winning goaltender in Springfield's opening night win on October 5 and he also is ranked third in the league in wins this season.

Question How have you felt thus far adjusting to a new team playing in Springfield?

Jeff Deslauriers It's been very good so far, I think as a team we have been playing together and that was a big reason we started with a good record. It's a long season, but I think as a group we all enjoy playing together and it has shown on the ice so far.

Question As a goaltender, with all of the games you play, do you ever get to a point where you just need a rest?

Jeff Deslauriers No, not really, I like playing a lot of games. You want to build up your confidence and I know my teammates are always going to support me in goal. You have to make sure you stay in shape and that's something we pride ourselves on, so I do enjoy playing a lot of games.

Question You spent the last couple of seasons with the Edmonton Oilers prospects scattered throughout the AHL, how nice is it to have all of the Oilers prospects together on one team?

Jeff Deslauriers I think it's very important and very good for the Oilers future. You want to have your players all on the same team to build chemistry and I think that is what we are doing in Springfield.

Question You are in your fourth year as a pro, what adjustments have you made over the years?

Jeff Deslauriers Time goes by quickly, I remember when I was drafted like it was yesterday with my parents, that was a special time. Each year I have just tried to improve my game and be a better goalie. My goal is to make the NHL with the Oilers and that is what I am striving to accomplish.

Question What do you think it will take to make that next jump to the NHL?

Jeff Deslauriers A lot of hard work. Make sure I work hard in practice and stay mentally sharp at all times. Hard work is the key, and I am willing to work hard to earn my shot.

Question What goalies did you look up to when you were younger?

Jeff Deslauriers Dominik Hasek was my favorite goaltender, as a French goalie you wouldn't think that, but he was my favorite. He was my idol when I was young and he still is.
