Question You scored your first goal of the year on October 20 at Albany, what was that like for you?

Ladislav Smid It was a nice feeling because I took a penalty early in the game that cost my team, so I was able to score a goal and get it back for us. I felt bad about the penalty, so I wanted to help my team anyway possible, so the goal was nice.

Question As a defenseman, are you looking to help out with the offense at times?

Ladislav Smid I am looking to pick my spots, when there is a chance to skate in the play and help the forwards score, I am willing to do that, but defense to me is just as important.

Question The Falcons are off to an impressive start at 5-2-0-1, what have been the reasons in your opinion?

Ladislav Smid We have a really young team that enjoys playing together, just a couple of veteran players. The key for us is playing our system, good defensively and going hard to the net for goals. We like to work hard and so far it is helping us win games.

Question What are some of your memorable moments as a hockey player thus far?

Ladislav Smid My first year playing in North America with the Portland Pirates a few years ago, we made it to the Calder Cup semi-finals, so that was just a fun year for the team. The fans were great that year and I was able to play with a great group of guys, anytime you have a chance to go deep in the playoffs, it's a nice feeling.

Question You were drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round a few years ago, what was that feeling like for you?

Ladislav Smid Anytime you hear your name mentioned in the draft, it's a huge honor. I was traded to Edmonton after one year with Anaheim, but it was for Chris Pronger, so you understand that it's part of the game. Edmonton gave me a chance to play in the NHL last year and it was a great experience for me.

Question Do you remember your first goal in the NHL?

Ladislav Smid I do, it was in Columbus after like 56 games in the NHL, so it was nice to score that goal, something I will always remember.
