Coaches Corner #10

With Springfield Falcon's Asst. Coach Phil Russell

Thanksgiving has come and gone and Christmas is just around the corner and the men get to play some road hockey. Strange things happen when the team goes on the road. They keep it simple, and play with a sense of urgency. These are the things that the coaching staff tries to get into the players minds so they can have fun and be successful. Consistency, shift in shift out, period in period out, is what we want. Word gets around the AHL that the Falcons, the birds of prey that they are, are on fire and tough to play against. This is our mission, to boldly go to where no team has gone before...sorry, I've got a little star trek in me. Anyway, back to basics and playing on the road. No show to put on, just sound tough grinding hockey. Finish your checks, take the body when you can, put pucks on the net, shoot the puck and drive to the net, you will be rewarded.

The men worked hard today as they do most every day and they really are going to be as good as they want to be. This is their mission, to boldly go to where they want to go.

Special thank you to Col. Marten and TSgt. Jeanette Masters and the group over at Westover ARB, Chicopee that hosted us for a C-5 tour recently. We had a great time! Have a grand day.
