Coaches Corner #8

with Springfield Falcon's Asst. Coach Phil Russell

Some tough pills to swallow lately, but that is what learning and coaching is all about.

A lot of stuff happening to us is what we are doing to ourselves, not what another team is doing to us. So we can view, learn, correct and move on. Divisional games for the rest of November with the Lowell Lockmonsters coming in the night before the holiday. Time to make some hay!

The players had a lot of fun with the season ticket holders and have really been doing their community relations stuff with the Adopt a Falcon Program. We had our Team Poster Shoot at Barnes ARNGB, Westfield, A-10 last Monday. Makes a guy want to solo! I think those days are over for this coach. A big thanks to all those interesting people that made our day so special.

The guys are always learning to be a part of this community. Brad Tiley is assisting Sport-2-Sport and our own Reminder Publications with a used equipment drive for kids-related organizations, Jim Campbell is starting his Soupy's Kitchen Cupboard food donation program, Ryan Vesce is working on program to benefit Breast Cancer, and Mitch Fritz will be out and about for the American Red Cross-Pioneer Valley. Guys have also been to youth hockey practices and schools. The thing about doing community relations as a professional athlete is to realize how lucky we are to be blessed with the talent to not only entertain people but make a difference in our community.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I know that I am cooking the Bird. Hopefully having some company and I know my dog Lil' Girl will have a full belly. I am sure I will have some "Martha Stewart" stories to share.

I need some more questions, to keep me going. If you think of something at the game, we will have a question box set up at the Community Relations table behind Section 31 starting this week Drop me a line.

On behalf of the entire Springfield Falcons Family, I would like to wish you and your family and very safe and prosperous Thanksgiving.
