Dandy of a game

Although winning two out of three was a positive sign, the Falcons let one slip away when they had a chance to sweep all three games.

Portland arrives the day before Thanksgiving and provides an entertaining game. There was no surprises as this was the third game with the Pirates in less than two weeks. It would turn out to be a dandy of a game from start to shootout finish. Trailing 2-1 going into the 3rd, Springfield native Dan Cavanaugh scores his first goal of the year early into the final frame to turn the momentum in the favor of the Falcons. We played hard and smart through the overtime but would need the shootout to decide the contest. Henrich and Corso score while Ramo stops 4 of 5 for the win.

Off to Worcester to play the Sharks on Friday. A solid first period leads to a 2nd period where the Falcons take advantage of their power play opportunities and blow the game wide open at 4-1. With a little better finish around the net the score could have been higher. We get a little sloppy in the 3rd and weather a Shark attack but hold on for a good 4-1 road win.

Right back home the next night for a rematch with Worcester, before an enthusiastic Springfield crowd. We entertain them early and peck away for a 2-0 lead after two. Again, we do not finish around the net as well as we need to and only lead by two. This turns out to be a bad omen....the Sharks score early in the 3rd to cut the deficit in half and take over the momentum and never lose it. Still in the lead with ten minutes to go in the contest, the Falcons completely self-destruct and give up 3 quick goals to fall behind 4-2 and never recover. The final score is 5-2. Disappointing because the first forty minutes were very good and then, "poof" like magic, we let one slip away.

Here to better luck against our upcoming opponents in Manchester, Providence, and Lowell.
