E.L.'s Lajoie excells for team



East Longmeadow's Emily Lajoie recently celebrated a successful U.S. Swimming Long Course season.

Lajoie swims for Mei's Typhoons Swim Club and her achievements include winning five medals at New England Age Group Championship held at MIT in Boston, qualifying for the New England All-Star team and representing New England in the U.S. Swimming Eastern Zone Championship in Buffalo, NY, where she achieved a U.S. AAAA time and won a medal in the 100 meter butterfly. Lajoie also achieved five Top Ten New England swim times this session in the 50 and 100 meter butterfly, 100 meter backstroke, 200 meter individual medley and the 400 meter freestyle.

New England Swimming is the local Swimming Committee (LSC) of USA Swimming. USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for swimming in the United States. New England Swimming involves 6,500 athletes and nearly 100 teams in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Eastern Zones is one of four Zones designated by U.S. Swimming and includes LSC teams from 12 states and the District of Columbia.

Mei's Ryphoons Swim Club (MTSC) is an affiliate team of USA Swimming. MTSC is a year-round competitive swim team that practices at Western New England College's Healthful Living Center swimming pool.
